We are the Williams family, we have four children: Kelsey who is 12, Braxton is 8, Caitlynn is 4 and Jaden is 2.
On April 1, 2004 our oldest son Braxton (age 3 1/2) was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. Braxton had his tumor removed and went through radiation and chemotherapy til December of 2004. Two years later our third child, Jaden was born. On September 4, 2008, Jaden was diagnosed with the same brain tumor as his older brother, we were completely shocked, since we were told at the time of Braxton's diagnoses that this rare tumor was not hereditary. Jaden had surgery and had his tumor removed. With having two children diagnosed with cancer the doctors wanted our whole family to be tested to see if the cancer was genetic and if anyone else was carrying the gene. We received the results of the genetic testing. Our oldest daughter, Kelsey did not carry the gene, but our youngest daughter did. On November 11, 2008 (two months after Jaden was diagnosed) Caitlynn had a MRI to see if she had any signs of a tumor. The MRI came back positive - there was a tumor. While her younger brother kept moving forward with his treatments, Caitlynn had surgery to remove the tumor. After her first round of Chemo. she got an infection that sent her to PICU. Caitlynn's infection was so bad she couldn't recover. A week later, Caitlynn passed away December 20, 2008. Braxton had his six month check-up in January and the test results came back with great news. As a community we want to support this brave family. Come and run to raise money for the William’s family of West Jordan. |
